Chapter 7 - Stripping the Veil

Noah reached up to his lapel.
With steady, deliberate fingers, he unpinned the white boutonniere—the flower that matched Allison’s bouquet. He looked at it for half a second before dropping it onto the floor at Allison’s knees.
He turned toward the ballroom.
The two hundred guests were dead silent. Family friends, business partners, colleagues, and college buddies stood frozen, watching the drama unfold.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” Noah announced, his voice ringing clear and authoritative through the cavernous space. “I apologize for the inconvenience, but there will be no wedding today. The bar is open, the catering is paid for, and I suggest you enjoy the meal on Grant Holloway’s dime.”
A wave of shocked gasps swept through the crowd.
Allison let out a wail, burying her face in her hands on the floor. Her mother, who had just rushed out from the front row of the chapel, looked between her weeping daughter and the towering figure of Noah, completely paralyzed by shame.
“Marcus,” Noah said, looking at his best man.
“On it,” Marcus replied instantly. He walked over, placed a hand on Noah’s shoulder, and glanced at Rachel. “I’ll get the car brought around to the service exit.”
“Wait,” Grant said, his smile vanishing as he realized his son was walking away without giving him the reaction he craved. “You think you’ve won something here, Noah? You walk out that door today, and you don’t sign those papers, your company is dead by Monday morning. I will call in every loan, freeze your operational accounts through my creditors, and take your patents for pennies on the dollar.”

Noah stopped. He didn't flinch.
Instead, a strange, calm smile broke across his face.
