Chapter 10 - The Boardroom Storm

At 2:00 PM, the 50th-floor boardroom of Vance Worldwide was packed with twenty terrified executives and board members. At the head of the mahogany table stood Julian Vance—sleek, forty years old, wearing a three-thousand-dollar suit, his face flushed with greedy anticipation.

"The medical report from the airport confirms she collapsed!" Julian shouted, slamming his palms on the table. "She is eighty-one years old! She cannot pilot a Fortune 50 company while passing out in public terminals! The bylaws are clear!"

"The bylaws say no such thing, Julian."

The double doors of the boardroom were thrown open.

Evelyn Vance Whitmore marched in. She wasn't in a wheelchair. She wasn't leaning on a cane. Flanking her on either side were Marcus, Madison—holding a leather legal binder—and Franklin, walking tall in his honest, rugged clothes.

Julian recoiled as if he had seen a ghost. "Aunt Evelyn! You... you're supposed to be in a hospital!"

"Disappointed to see me breathing?" Evelyn walked slowly toward the head of the table. Every single board member instantly scrambled out of their chairs, standing at rigid attention.

Julian stammered, sweating through his silk shirt. "No, of course not! I was merely acting in the company's best interest—"

"Madison," Evelyn said smoothly. "Distribute the files."

Madison stepped forward with complete poise, sliding copies of the transaction records down the long table. "At 8:15 this morning, Mr. Julian Vance authorized an illicit transfer of two million dollars to Apex Capital in exchange for unauthorized voting proxies. Federal trade regulators and the SEC have already been served copies twenty minutes ago."

Julian's knees gave out. He fell back into his chair, gasping for air. "This is... this is a setup!"

"Security," Evelyn said coldly. "Remove my nephew from the building. Strip him of his shares per the misconduct clause. If he sets foot on Vance property again, have him arrested for trespassing."

Two armed guards seized Julian under his arms, dragging his screaming, kicking frame out of the boardroom.

Evelyn turned to the remaining board members, whose faces were pale with terror.

"Now," Evelyn announced, placing her hand on Franklin's shoulder. "I want to introduce you all to the newest member of the Vance Charitable Foundation's Board of Trustees. This is Franklin Miller. He will be overseeing our new national vocational endowment, starting with a fifty-million-dollar grant for blue-collar worker healthcare and pensions."

Applause—relieved, desperate, but genuinely awestruck—erupted through the high-rise suite. Madison hugged her father tightly, crying tears of sheer joy as Franklin stood tall, his humility outshining every diamond in the room.
