Chapter 10 - THE LEGACY OF PROTECTION

The evening was filled with laughter, good food, and memories.
As the dinner ended, Dante stepped up to the table, leaning down to whisper something into Vincent’s ear.
"Boss," Dante whispered softly. "The Commission’s annual winter charity gala begins in twenty minutes downtown."
Vincent nodded smoothly. He stood up, buttoning his suit jacket.
"Duty calls," Vincent smiled at Rebecca and Molly. "Dante will take you both home to the Lincoln Park townhouse."
"Wait, Uncle Vincent," Molly stood up, stepping around the table.
She reached into her purse and pulled out a tiny, silver-wrapped gift box with a pink bow.
Vincent stopped, a faint eyebrow raised in amusement. "What's this?"
"Happy fifty-fifth birthday, Uncle Vincent," Molly smiled, her green eyes twinkling with fond memory. "Don't worry... I personally checked the contents."
Vincent laughed—a rich, deep sound that warmed the private dining room.
He carefully untied the pink ribbon, opening the small silver box.
Inside rested a sleek, high-end titanium fountain pen, engraved with the words:
TO VINCENT — THE GUARDIAN OF OUR HOUSE.
Vincent touched the engraved metal with his thumb, a rare, deep emotion visible in his eyes.
"Thank you, sweet girl," Vincent whispered, pulling her into a gentle embrace. "It is the finest gift I have ever received."
He placed the pen safely into his inner jacket pocket, right next to his heart.
They walked down to the restaurant entrance together, where two armored cars were waiting in the quiet, snowy night.
Vincent kissed Rebecca on the cheek, hugged Molly one last time, and stepped into his lead car.
As his black sedan pulled out onto the snowy avenue, Vincent looked out the rear window.
Standing under the warm yellow lights of the restaurant entrance were Rebecca and Molly, wrapped in thick coats, waving goodbye as their own security detail escorted them safely to their vehicle.
Vincent leaned back against the leather headrest of his car, looking out at the glittering lights of the Chicago skyline.
The dark world he had ruled for thirty years was still out there—filled with dangerous men, cold streets, and relentless ambition.
But inside his heart, there was absolute peace.

The silver ribbon had been cut long ago. The bomb had been defused. The snakes had been cast out.
And in their place stood a real family, bound not by blood or fear, but by an unbreakable vow made on a cold December night by a mafia boss and a courageous little girl.
